The Dos and Don’ts of Having Your Food Locally Catered

The Dos and Don’ts of Having Your Food Locally Catered

If you want a fabulous wedding reception, hire a fabulous caterer. If you’re not sure how to go about it, place these seven catering Do’s and Don’ts at the top of your bridal checklist.

Do hire a caterer you respect.  The best caterers easily accommodate various dietary needs, including vegan and kosher diets. They also provide positive references from at least two clients.  Your Wedding Planner will assist you.

Don’t cut corners on food. Weddings are expensive, and you may be tempted to skimp on the menu. But remember, a great meal makes a great party.

Do consider the hotel, venue or cruise lines for your reception. All of the details are handled for you by resort/cruise staff and your wedding planner, so instead of fretting about the condition of your cake or the temperature of your food, you can concentrate on creating beautiful memories.

Don’t write off the possibility hosting your reception at the resort, venue or onboard the ship because you think it would cost too much. Many destination receptions are surprisingly affordable, and because they’re paid for ahead of time, you’ll know exactly how much you’re spending – no surprise bills at the end of the night.

Do voice your preferences to the chef. Perhaps you’re a fan of cake pops and you’d really like to serve them to your guests instead of a traditional wedding cake. Don’t be shy; this is your once-in-a-lifetime party. Our chefs are particularly open and flexible when it comes to creating the wedding menu of your dreams.

Don’t let an off-site caterer ruin your wedding dinner with sub-par cuisine. When food is prepared at one location and shipped to another, it inevitably gets jostled, and freshness is compromised. If you elect an off-site caterer, be aware that the logistics of your arrangement could affect the quality of the meal – not to mention, increase your wedding spends.

Do ask if a champagne toast and after-dinner coffee service are included in your catering plan. Cash bars are passé, but many couples want to treat their guests to an evening of free drinks. If you don’t want to spend the entire night wondering what kind of booze tab you’re running, opt for a pre-paid plan.

The less you have to worry about food service, the more you can relax and savor your special day. What’s on your wedding menu?
